Jesus GOD it’s Friday! This week has been super long, yet it seemed to have gone by so fast at the same time! I hope your week is ending well. Some of you may have the weekend off, some of you may not. Whatever you’re doing this weekend, having fun and having quality time with those you love are what is important.
Here in western Kentucky, it has been raining off and on for about two days. I’m hoping the weather gets it out of its system before the weekend because I don’t mind one day of “dear lord, why is the sky green or mustard brown? Why is it raining so damn hard? Why do I feel a little gloomy and want to watch old Casper the friendly ghost cartoons?”. However, when it completely consumes my whole two days off, I get cranky. But whether the weather be cold, whether the weather be hot, whether the weather be a hot freaking mess or not, I wanted to share with you my weekend bucket list!
1. Take my nephews to Legoland on Saturday!
Every Saturday in the summer, the McCracken County Public Library in Paducah, Kentucky clears out an entire room and fills it with lego blocks of all shapes and sizes. So this Saturday, I want to take my nephews Braxton, 3(on August 10th!) and Dustin, 10, so they can build gigantic cities with their imagination. I may help them too *wink wink*. It helps them boost imagination and helps build motor skills. And secretly I am training my nephews to love books as much as I do. But, in all honesty, I’m being selfish because I really want to play with the legos in a corner by myself.
2. Explore more of Downtown Paducah!
Listen. I can’t tell you how much I genuinely am obsessed with downtown areas of cities. They’re historic, they’re gorgeous, and they really throw into the culture of that city. I lived in this area up until I went off to college. But now that Jeff and I have been here the past few months, I feel guilty because I have not been able to show Jeff my favorite parts of Downtown Paducah. So this weekend I think I am going to take him to Max’s pizzeria, sit outside eating our pizza before going on a walk around the shops. To me it’s full of adventure, it’s romantic, and it’s a cheap date for those who are tight on money.
3. Read! Read! Read!
I have a list of 30 books I want to read before I turn 30 next year. So far, I have only checked off five of those books. So I need to get my booty in gear! I just get so distracted and find other books I start reading, then I realize six books later that I want to re-read books on the list that I have already read because they’re SO good. It’s actually an accomplishment…that list. I am currently reading Nora Ephron’s I Feel Bad About My Neck: and Other Thoughts On Being A Woman as my current non-fiction selection, and this weekend I’m going to read The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (it’s really a novella, but whatever) as my fiction piece.
4. Buy a children’s book for Braxton’s birthday!
My nephew Braxton is turning 3 next Tuesday! It’s hard to believe that little fart is growing up so damn fast! The past couple of months I have been getting into reading to the boys when they visit or when they stay the night (Braxton a children’s books, Dustin and I are reading a book from the Goosebumps series). They both love it! But Braxton loves it more because of the pictures. I’ve read him When I Woke Up I Was A Hippopotamus, Where The Wild Things Are, and The Little Engine That Could (he’s obsessed with trains). I think I want to give him a book for his birthday. Which would come to no shock at all to Jeff and I’s family because that’s what we get a lot of the kids as they get older. I’m thinking Green Eggs and Ham. I could use some more suggestions if any of you have any for another book! I want to wait a while before I give him The Giving Tree.
5. Buy new tennis shoes!
Well, after putting a thousand miles or two on my Nike shoes, it’s time to get a new pair. I always feel bittersweet with good byes with old shoes. They’ve taken me through so many miles with comfort! But at the same time, breaking in new sneaks will be the most amazing feeling. Almost as amazing as taking off your bra at the end of the day…Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
6. Try a new kettlebell workout class in a local gym!
I’ve been doing Jillian Michael’s Shred-It-With-Weights workout, which is a kettlebell workout routine. I love it! But I think I would really enjoy a live class! So this Saturday morning I am going to try a class at a private gym in Paducah and I’m totally psyched. I love getting my ass handed to me and the feeling of sweat dripping off of my face. It sounds wrong, but it’s actually quite amazing!
Those are my weekend goals! What are YOU doing this weekend, folks! Please share your wonderful weekend plans!
